If you haven't received a password reset email, please check to make sure your
email address is spelled correctly. Sometimes
password reset emails get lost in spam folders and other junk-mail traps. Please
check these and try requesting another email. If that doesn't help, ask your email
provider whether they might be filtering it out on their end.
I forgot my password or my username; how can I get them back?
We can't tell you your password, but we can help you reset it to something new.
Visit the password reset page and enter the e-mail address you have
on file with Sesamr. We'll send you an e-mail that will help you reset your password.
This e-mail will also include your Sesamr username, in case you forgot it.
How do I change my username?
There's no easy way to do this right now, but you can use the export and import
features in your settings to change to a new account while preserving your current
bookmarks. First, visit your Settings (accessible from the top right of every page on
Sesamr) and select export/backup from that page. Follow the directions to export
your bookmarks. Then, register or log into your new account, go to settings, and
select import/upload.
Why does Sesamr keep asking me to log in?
This is usually a cookie-related problem. Do you have cookies disabled, or any
cookie-blocking extensions installed? Make sure sesamr.com is allowed to set cookies,
and if that doesn't help, try deleting your Sesamr cookies (this is in your browser
preferences) and logging in again.
Tags
What are tags?
Tags are one-word descriptors that you can assign to your bookmarks on Sesamr to
help you organize and remember them. Tags are a little bit like keywords, but you
choose them yourself and they do not form a hierarchy. You can assign as many tags to
a bookmark as you like and you can always rename or delete the tags later. So,
tagging can be a lot easier and more flexible than fitting your information into
preconceived categories or folders.
For example, if you save an article about how to make a certain kind of cake, you
can tag it with recipes sweets yogurt or whatever other tags you might use to find
it again. You don't have to rely on the designer of a system to provide you with a
category for French cake recipes. You make up tags as you need them, and use the
tags that make the most sense to you.
This is great for organizing and finding personal data, but it goes even further
when someone else posts related content using the same tags. You begin building a
collaborative repository of related information, driven by personal interests and
creative organization.
How do I add tags?
When saving or editing a bookmark, there is a field for Tags. In this field,
enter as many tags as you would like, each separated by a space. What tags or words would help you remember this
page a few years from now? That's a good place to start. On your Bookmarks page all
the tags that you've used on your bookmarks are listed on the right side. If you
click on one of these tags you get to view all the bookmarks that you have been
tagged.
What are some examples of tagging?
You can use tags describing an article or website's subject, location, name,
category, people, places, ideas -- pretty much anything you can think of. The more
tags the better! (Most people end up adding two to five tags to each of their
bookmarks.)
The only limitation on tags is that they must not include spaces. So if your web
page is about a two-word place like San Francisco, you may want to tag it as sf,
san-francisco, SanFrancisco, san.francisco, or whatever else makes sense to you.
You don't want to use commas, though, since a comma will be become part of the tag.
You can also use tags to describe metadata about the bookmark. For example, you
can use asterisks to rate bookmarks. So a tag of * might mean an OK link, *** is
pretty good, and a bookmark tagged ***** is awesome. Other common tags include
toread, or via:friend. Bookmarks that you want can be tagged wishlist, and ones
that might not be safe to visit at work can be tagged nsfw. A tag can be anything
you want.
What is a tag cloud?
A tag cloud is simply a way to view a group of tags in a denser way than a list
would ordinarily allow. Since tag clouds arrange tags both horizontally and
vertically, you can see more tags with less scrolling. They can be sorted both
alphabetically and by size, and we employ some visual cues such as text sizing
and bolding to represent more often used tags.
What is a Tag bundle of tags, and how do I create one?
A Tag bundle is simply a way for you to organize a group of tags. For instance,
you might want to organize cats, dogs and fish tags into a bundle called pets
. That way you can quickly access those tags from your bookmarks pages as well as
filter your view to only show bookmarks in the pets bundle.
How do I view all the bookmarks tagged with two or more specific tags (a tag combination)?
If you already have a tag selected, simply type another tag in the tag bar.
Alternatively you can use the tag sidebar, which has a list of related tags. These
are all the tags that you've used in addition to your current tag and clicking on one
of them will allow you to view that tag combination. Another way to do this is to
simply enter all the tags you want to combine (seperated by spaces) in the tag bar's
type a tag box , then press enter or click the arrow icon.
Is there a way to use not in tag combinations? What about or?
There's no way to use not yet; we'd like to do this in the future, but it's
impractical for the time being. You can use or, though, by creating a tag bundle
that includes those tags.
Bookmarks
What is social bookmarking?
Sesamr is a social bookmarking website, which means it is designed to allow you
to store and share bookmarks on the web, instead of inside your browser. This has
several advantages.
First, you can get to your bookmarks from anywhere, no matter whether you're at
home, at work, in a library, or on a friend's computer.
Second, you can share your bookmarks publicly, so your friends, coworkers, and
other people can view them for reference, amusement, collaboration, or anything else.
(Note that you can also mark bookmarks on Sesamr as private - only viewable by
you - if you like.)
Third, you can find other people on Sesamr who have interesting bookmarks and
add their links to your own collection. Everyone on Sesamr chooses to save their
bookmarks for a reason. You have access to the links that everyone wants to remember.
You can see whether two people have chosen to remember a link, or whether it was
useful enough for a thousand people to remember - which may help you find things
that are useful for you, too.
How do I save a bookmark?
There are several ways to add a bookmark in Sesamr.
The recommended way is to use one of our browser add-ons
. Once installed, clicking the button in your toolbar will bring up a window
to save a bookmark.
From the Sesamr website, you can manually create a bookmark by clicking "Save
a new bookmark" on the top right of most pages.
When you save your first bookmark, you'll notice a few new fields. Here's a
description of all of them:
URL: The URL field is simply the address of the page you're bookmarking. Only
change this if you know what you're doing.
Title: If you're using one of our bookmarking tools, this will be prefilled with
the title of the page you're saving. Feel free to edit this in any way that makes
sense to you.
Notes: Here's where you may want to write some additional info for yourself or
to let others know why you bookmarked this page.
Tags: Enter one or more tags separated by spaces here.
For more on tags, read our tags section.
How do I edit or delete a bookmark?
After saving an item, you can edit its title, notes, and tags by going to your
bookmarks and visiting the edit link for that bookmark. Similarly, if you'd like to
delete an item, visit the delete link next to its description. If the inline editing
interface doesn't appear to work (for any reason), you may be able to use the link
to full screen edit to successfully edit your bookmark instead.
Are my bookmarks public or private by default, and how do I make a bookmark public or private?
Bookmarks saved with your buttons are public by default. If you see a Share link next to a bookmark, that
means it is a private bookmark and only you can see it. Note: if you're logged out, you won't be able to see
your private bookmarks either.
To change a private bookmark to public (so that everyone else can see it), click
the Share link next to it. To change a public bookmark to private, edit it, check the
do not share box, and save it. While saving a new bookmark, you can also check the
do not share box to make that bookmark private.
How do I import/upload or export/backup bookmarks?
If you have bookmarks in your browser that you'd like to upload, you can use
import/upload in your Settings to add them to your account. You can upload as many
bookmarks files as you like, one at a time. This can be convenient for consolidating
bookmarks from multiple computers. Even more, if you have a Delicious account, you can import your Delicious bookmarks directly
by supplying your Delicious account username and password. In this way, your Delicious bookmarks will be imported to your bookmark list automatically.
You can use the export/backup tool, also in your settings, to make a copy of your
bookmarks and tags that you can then import into your browser (or something else).
There's a problem with my import process. What do I do?
Occasionally large imports take time to complete. So if it has been less than
a day, please wait until tomorrow before reporting an issue. If you have received an
import completed email and you are not seeing your bookmarks you may have set your
imported bookmarks to private, so you will need to be signed in to see them.
Otherwise, contact us at via the Support page and we'll look into the problem.
How do I see more or less detail when looking at my bookmarks?
You can choose minimum detail, or regular detail level by
clicking the corresponding icons in the bookmark detail level control at the top
left of the bookmarks list.
